Movie and television director Hideo Tanaka passed away on Saturday, June 9 at 1:30 p.m. at a Sayama City hospital due to stomach cancer. He was 78.
Tanaka was born in Gifu Prefecture, and along with Akira Kurosawa, he became a disciple of the late director Kajirō Yamamoto. Tanaka directed episodes from many live-action televsion series such as those in the Sukeban Deka and Uchū Keiji franchise. He would end up helming the two Uchū Keiji Shaider films and the two Sukeban Deka films. He is survived by his wife Wakako.
The manga creator of Sukeban Deka, Shinji Wada, just passed away on July 5.
